Officers Immediately following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) was closed to general aviation aircraft because of its proximity to downtown Washington, D.C. and our nations most revered national monuments. The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) Access Security Program (DASSP) now requires an Armed Security Officer (ASO) on board all charter and general aviation (GA) aircraft arriving and departing Reagan National.
ASO’s are law enforcement officers trained by the Federal Air Marshal Service and authorized by the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) to fly onboard GA aircraft into or out of Reagan National. ASO's are trained to use established security procedures that allow GA (General Aviation) operations into DCA, while protecting critical national assets from possible airborne terrorist attack. These procedures include a requirement that every GA flight operating into or out of DCA have onboard an armed security officer specially trained and authorized by TSA. Our personnel hold federal law enforcement
credentials, pilot certification and receive training in Executive Protection
and Emergency Medicine Protocols. |
